Dad and I celebrate Christmas Eve at Camp Canada.  It is the first Christmas in 48 years that Dad has been away from Mom.  Santa dropped by for a visit.

Aconcagua journal entry:
Christmas Eve, 1999

“We awoke with Christmas cheer.  Everyone went around and wished the other handful of climbers a Merry Christmas.  There were Germans, French, Swedish and Norwegians in our midst.  We had a great Christmas dinner of canned turkey, powdered mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberries, and peanut butter cheese-cake for dessert.  Tomorrow will be a difficult carry, so tonight we celebrate.”
